We suggest that you first install EBM using our newest installer at the new stand-alone computer.
Note:
The EBM installer is 'hard-coded' to install to 'c:\vision\ebm3k'.
If this is NOT where you want the program to be installed to, then PRIOR to running the installer, manually create a folder named 'vision' in your desired drive and directory location, then inside of the 'vision' folder, then manually create a sub-folder named 'ebm3k'.
You should start the installer with a right-click, then 'RunAsAdministrator'.
When you run the EBM installer, you will be asked:
- What type of installation you are wanting to do - select 'New Install', then 'Stand Alone'.
- Allow the installer to install the 'default' sql instance.
- When asked where you would like EBM to be installed to, you would either;
- Use our default install location (c:\vision\ebm3k), or
- If you instead manually created an 'ebm3k' folder - browse to select the 'ebm3k' folder that you manually created.
Once the install process has finished, copy the following items from the EBM3K folder on the old PC to that folder on the new PC (Note: EBM should not be running while the files are moved):
- All *.BAK files. These files should be in MMDDYY01.bak filename format.
- If the 'ebm3k' folder does not contain any *.bak files, run EBM at the old computer, go to top menu bar 'Settings - Program Settings - File Locations', the field named 'Auto backup location on SQL Server computer' indicates where these *.bak files are found. Copy the files from this location to the new computer.
- If the set of *.bak files you copied to the new computer does not contain a backup file having TODAYS date, than you will need to run the EBM program at the old computer, then merely EXIT the program, this should trigger the daily auto-backup file to be created (EBM may pause upon exit, and will say 'Not Responding' as it makes this newest *.bak file). Once the file has been created, and located, copy this file to the 'ebm3k' folder of the new computer.
- All of the *.dbs files.
- All files beginning with 'settings2.*'
- All files beginning with 'user2.*'
- Optional - If OST program is used, all files ending with '*.etx'
- Optional - If any 'form letter templates' were customized, copy the customized '*.rtf' files.
- Optional - If any form letters were saved and possibly edited to add terms/exclusions/etc... typically these would NOT be found in the main 'ebm3k' program folder - they would more likely be saved to a folder created just for that purpose. In this situation you would want to copy the folder used for this purpose to the new computer.
- Optional - If any reports '*.xls' or '*.pdf' were created by users, typically these would NOT be found in the main 'ebm3k' program folder - they would more likely be saved to a folder created just for that purpose. In this situation you would want to copy the folder used for this purpose to the new computer.
- Optional - If at any time the customers archived old jobs out of the EBM program, then removed these same jobs from within the live EBM database - typically these would NOT be found in the main 'ebm3k' folder (though they could be) - they would more likely be saved to a folder created just for that purpose. In this situation you would want to copy the folder used for this purpose to the new computer. These files have the '*.jbb' extension.
- Optional - If the customer used a 'logo' file when EBM was used at the old computer. Run EBM at the old computer, go to the top menu bar 'Settings - Program Settings - Company tab - Logo file'. If a logo file is referenced there, note its location, copy the logo file, and paste it into the 'vision' folder at the new computer. Then run EBM at the new computer, go to the top menu bar 'Settings - Program Settings - Company tab - Logo file'. Browse to the 'vision' folder to indicate where the logo file may now be found at.
After all files above files have been copied to the new computer, this next step migrates the sql database. Start EBM (at the new computer) with a right-click, then 'RunAsAdministrator', then top menu bar 'Database-Restore', Yes, click the box named 'Overwrite all jobs during restore', Restore, Yes, Yes - which should bring you to a 'File-Open' dialog box. You would then browse to the '...\vision\ebm3k' folder (where you copied the most recent MMDDYY01.bak file to), select that file, and click Open.
WARNING (This paragraph is directed to an information technology professional only!): If you receive an 'OS error 5' this means there is a file level permissions issue when trying to access this file, double check the file permissions to the entire 'vision' folder on the new computer, and make sure that all groups show 'Full Control'. If after you do this, the problem repeats, you will need to call us so we can set the sql service to run as the 'Local System' account, which is the next level fix for this problem.
If you do not receive this error, the database restore should complete properly. This will effectively replace the newly installed EBM default database with the database the customer used at the previous computer!
